Combine Scuba Diving with Your Sailing Charter for the Perfect Caribbean Holiday

All of our guests can enjoy snorkelling on their vacation aboard Scorpio.
A selection of masks and fins are available for your use though
you may wish to bring your own to ensure a good fit. We have
an underwater digital camera which you are welcome to use
and will copy your photos to disc for you to take home.

Although we do not offer scuba diving certification
courses we are able to give complete novices
a taste of scuba diving through the
Discover Scuba Diving program.

For suitably qualified divers we are able to offer
guided diving to many of the dive sites in your
chosen charter area. We can also normally
arrange rendezvous with local dive schools
for more challenging dives if we are unable
to provide adequate surface support.

Scorpio is fully equipped for recreational scuba
diving with 4 full sets of quality scuba gear
(bcd's, regulators, tanks and weights)
all of which are available to our guests.
Air tanks are recharged with our on-board Bauer
15cfm electrically driven dive compressor.

Snorkelling and scuba diving - not using the
services of a dive school - is free with your charter.

Richard and Jan are enthusiastic recreational scuba divers and are keen to show you the underwater sights on your sailing holiday aboard Scorpio.  Richard is a DSD qualified PADI Divemaster and Jan is a PADI Rescue Diver.  Both have extensive experience of independent scuba diving gained during their travels throughout the Mediterranean, Red Sea, and Caribbean Sea.

Mako SharkCruising the Caribbean has allowed us to sample the fantastic scuba diving opportunities throughout the Windward and Leeward Islands, the Greater Antilles (Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Cuba), along the Central American coast of Mexico, the famed barrier reef diving off Belize and the Bay Islands of Honduras as well as Panama and the South America Caribbean coast including the ABC Islands, and the Venezuelan archipelagos of Los Roches and Los Aves.  In fact there aren't many dive areas we haven't visited in the Caribbean.

The opportunity to sample these spectacular delights is not to be missed
on your sailing vacation in the Caribbean.
With her large, low bathing platform providing easy access to
the water Scorpio is an ideal charter yacht to combine scuba diving with
the fun and freedom of exploring the Islands.

Scuba Diving in the BVI

With over 200 named dive sites scattered throughout the 60 islands and cays that make up the BVI, this area is justifiably rated as one of the top dive destinations in the Caribbean.

The BVI provide some of the best coral reef diving there is. In addition BVI wreck dives include the world famous RMS Rhone, which sank of Salt Island in 1867 and now provides a series of dives which may well be the highlight to your diving holiday aboard sailing yacht "Scorpio".

The reef system and ecology of the area is well protected with conservation areas established by the BVI National Parks Trust. Most of the more popular sites have mooring buoys dedicated for the use of dive boats and yachts. As well as protecting the reef, this system also provides easy access to the dive sites and normally enables diving straight off the bathing platform of the yacht.

Many of the dives are unaffected by current, few are more than 80' deep and are therefore ideal for novice/intermediate divers. The diversity of sites, including coral gardens, canyons, tunnels and wrecks make the BVI an interesting environment for even the most experienced diver. Your sailing charter itinerary will be tailored to ensure you get the very best of scuba diving opportunities in this fabulous holiday destination.

Dive BuddiesNovice Divers:

If you enjoy snorkelling and would like get a better look at the reef life why not try scuba diving?  We offer the PADI "Discover Scuba" program to introduce you to diving and then we can take you on supervised dives for the rest of your charter - no is certification required.

Alternatively, if gaining your scuba certification before your vacation is not an option you could combine your yacht charter
 Reef Life

with a few days at a hotel from which you could learn to scuba dive before joining Scorpio.  There are hundreds of Dive Schools (most can arrange accommodation) throughout the islands offering PADI (or equivalent) courses.  All you need is a week long course to qualify as an "Open Water Diver" or you could take advantage of PADI's course option to complete the theory part of your training online or at a dive school near your home and then undertake the practical training in a couple of days at a local dive school here in the islands.
